I do exist! I just got really out of touch with fandom for awhile, then I came back but didn't really have anything to write. But now I do! So I'm back! Aren't you all just too darn excited for words?
bau_bigbang and I happened to be her beta because I'm just that cool. The product of our ridiculous summer endeavors can be found (and should be read!) over here at her journal. Seriously? It's amazing, I love it so much, and I don't just say that because I am her friend. It really is spectacular! It's an CM/SPN crossover, so if you're not really a CM fan, go for the boys. THE BOYS!
Anyways, this little interlude won't make sense unless you read that thing. But I wrote her a little sometin-sometin for being the awesome person she is and also because I needed this crazy thing to get out of my brain. Under the cut...

Now I'm going to go back to sitting here and idly staring out the window dreaming about Pinto fic (JUJU THIS IS YOUR FAULT).
Enough of my not-very-snarky not-very-sarcasm.
So. There's this girl. I call her Jules (jujuberry136) and she is a fantabulous writer. This summer she signed up for the Criminal Minds

In addition to all the other dorky TV shows I watch, Supernatural represents. I used to be a Buffy/Angel person but nowadays I don't watch so many non-scifi or mystery shows.
That doesn't matter though. Even if you don't watch Supernatural this video is just so much fun to watch:
Yay for Jensen Ackles! in the descrip on YouTube the person said this was a mistake because he didn't get a cue early enough, so this just happened... The scratching is a thing from the episode, but it's funny even without that. Hope you enjoy! Now off to do tons of homework...

I'm reading fic in the computer lab at school while I wait for my next class. I don't do work if there's less than an hour until whatever I'm going to next since that's not enough time for me to do anything except get more confused.
My friend Melissa comes in and sits next to me and talks to me and then gives me a really strange look. At first I can't figure out why. There's nothing wrong with my hair or on my face, I'm looking at an LJ, but it's fairly generic with lots of little words, then I realize:
Oh, the top of the screen says "NC17" in biggish letters. And she's probably reacting to the fact that I'm sitting surrounded by at least 30 engineers reading...colorful material. Or she may have thought I was watching some until she came over...
Huh, now I wonder if that's what Em used to think before I got her hooked on fic.
Just happy cause it's Thursday, which means no more school until Tuesday!

So I've recently been working through the start of my future (or at least that's what my advisor keeps telling me). Here a couple tidbits of advice I've gathered from the past couple weeks. I'm putting these here to help me breathe a little, since today has been pretty darn awful (aka "when you wake up to a dog throwing up on your feet, just go BACK TO BED"). There are three sections!
( Tips for an Amber-style roadtrip )
( Tips for Conferences )
( Applying to Grad School )
And that, my friends, are the rules guiding my life currently. Oh yes, and I'm still trying to get over all that freaking alcohol. For someone who barely drinks, going to a conference where I was basically told to drink or go away was particularly damaging.

I'm home sick today. And what do I do when I'm home sick? I catch up on my favorite blogs and watch YouTube videos before immersing myself in crappy Computational Mechanics work and studying for the GREs.
Anyways, Dooce posted this video last week, but me being way behind in life just watched it. Now, before you read the rest of my thoughts, you should probably watch the video.
WARNING: Many have wanted their three and half minutes back tenfold after watching this. If you don't think it's funny after the first minute, I'd say there's nothing to sway you and you should just hit the stop button. With no further ado: "A discussion with Ben Bernanke, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the United States Federal Reserve"

So I realized that I haven't written anything in two weeks...mostly because homework? It sucks. I had to write five MATLAB programs for a class today. Plus do a whole differential equation piecewise function crap thing. And yesterday? I had to go to a golf outing. It was brutal. I hate golf. I hate drunk guys. I like golf carts though, and I got my very own personal one for being totally awesomely me, aka one of about five volunteers (to run an outing with 130 people...right...).

Because why continue the series that has garnered so many fans when you can alienate them, then try to woo them back with your crappy new show. OK, so I can't decide that yet and, yes, maybe I'm just a bit bitter. But seriously, is SciFi trying to become the crappiest network? They're losing one of their highest ranked shows ever (BSG) and now one of their other highly popular original shows. Maybe if they had put it on a time other than Friday night at 10pm, it would have ranked higher. Ever thought of that?
Seriously: A) put production dollars into already developed, streamlined, and beloved show; or, B) put production dollars into a show that still needs money for development and is not a surefire success.
Oh, and in the meantime? Continue to pay Tracy Morgan to pretend he's Ashton Kutcher back in good ole Punk'd days.
Whatever. This happens everytime I really like a show. I'M DONE WITH TELEVISION.
*A
P.S.> Can they stop producing their crappy movies and put the money towards SGA? Because that would make more sense.

I iz waiten fer SGA Big Bangz. Impatiently. Like really really impatiently.
Sadly I will be in Cleveland (why, for the love of all that is holy, can't they have conferences in interesting places? Like, New York City. Or D.C. Or California. No, I get to go to freaking Ohio. Or God forbid, another country, which would be my preference.), which will extremely limit my reading time. *tear* Not only that, I have *responsibilities* at this conference. I'm supposed to represent all the student materials engineers in the world. That's a lot to put on a person, ya know? And they always ask me how to get more girls into engineering, like I hold the key to the universe. Sorry, I am not every girl, just like I am not every mini-engineer. In fact, I'm just your plain old over-achiever.
But just because I can't read all the stories in one weekend, doesn't mean you can't (or you can at least try...)! Check it out over...here. And make sure to read Zen and the Art of Jumper Maintenance by
indybaggins and Providing the Flame by
wolfshark, which I've already read and can vouch for the brilliance of. I'm so excited at the number of amazing writers and interesting stories that are coming!! It's funny how many declassification stories I noticed :) I love that prompt and there is no end to the number of awesome stories you can get from it. It's supposed to go live anytime now, so give a round of applause for the BB coordinators, writers, and artists!
I iz also watchen the 'Lympics. Howz about you? Iz been in luv with Michael Phelps for...well, forever. I'm also totally in love with Misty May-Treanor, but don't tell anyone :)
Luvs you all!

P.S. OH! I finished another book! HA! 15. Breakfast at Tiffany's by Truman Capote. It was on my list, which I've now read 40 book off of! A whole whopping 4%! Now I'm reading The Long Dark Tea-time of the Soul by Douglas Adams. Or at least I'm pretending to. In reality I'm reading Going Public by

A conversation between my supervisor and myself yesterday:
Supervisor (SV) walks up and looks into intern office, then back at me, where I am sitting at the conference table with my laptop, my other laptop, my extra screen and all my other stuff. He peers back into the office, then back at me.
SV: (looking at me judgmentally) Wwwhyyyyy are you sitting out *here* instead of in *there*?
Me: (glancing up, then returning my gaze to Photoshop) It was raining on me.
SV: We're *inside*.
Me: Yes, but it was raining on me.
SV: Whhhhyyyyy is it raining on you? Or do I not want to know?
Me: There's a leak. In the ceiling. When it rains pretty hard, it drips on me and the computers. This is all because that room was deemed "the intern room" anyways, despite the multitude of desks out here.
SV: Okay, okay, I get it! *I'm* a horrible person for making you sit in that room. It is all *my* fault that it is raining on you.
Me: Pretty much, yeah.
SV: I still don't understand why you're at the conference table instead of a desk.
Me: I like it here better, no one can sneak up on me.
SV: IS THAT A CHALLENGE!?!?!?
Me: Uh....no? (as SV hurries away) Shit.

Finished my latest book a couple days ago, but haven't had time to post until now. I finished:
14. The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien
My review is here.
This book just supports my position: war fucks us up. And those of us over here in the NC zone don't know what they're going through over there in the combat zone. I recommend everyone read it.
It also is a book on my 1001 Books list! Book 180 is crossed off zee list!

13. Queen of Babble Gets Hitched by Meg Cabot
I was just finishing off the series... I read it in less than one night between Saturday and Sunday (started at 6pm, finished by 6am) because the dog wouldn't let me sleep (thunderstorms are bad things that need to be barked at). I've moved onto The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien.
I don't feel like doing a review for it, especially since it was just a quickie book for me. It was good, I loved the series, but it's not exactly high-class liter-AH-ture. But if you're in the mood for some seriously awesome chick lit, check it out.
I'm watching Project Runway because OMG it's so fierce. And I can't stop thinking of
sheafrotherdon's PR AU, John Sheppard's Guide to Surviving Project Runway, whenever I watch it. Seriously the show could only be better if SGA1 was on it. Hearing Tim Gunn's dulcet tones warning the designers to "Make it work!" just makes my day complete. I loved a lot of the designs I've seen so far. I'm also loving that I've actually got cable this week.
Finally, I've been trying to write again...I keep trying to write fanfic and then letting my nerves get the better of me. This is totally a crack!fic AU, but it's the first thing I've written that I might stick to... anyone wanna beta when I'm done? *g*
Anyways, have a great week everyone :)

So I did something stupid. And I am going to write about it here so someone can either learn from my mistakes or you can at least be entertained by both my stupidity and the ridiculous lengths people will go through to mess with other people.
On Monday night I got a random IM from someone who said he lived in the same town as I do and wanted to "get to know me". At first I continued to fend off his requests, but as he got more persistent he began to wear me down. He continued to talk to me despite me calling him a creep and saying it was never going to happen. Finally, I gave in and just talked to him. I was careful. I never gave him my address or my full name, although I did tell him which town I live in, although he kind of already knew. He continued to try to meet me and wanted me to come over and watch a movie. I'm not dumb, I know not to do that, so I said if he really wanted to meet me then it would have to be in a public place. He told me to meet him at a restaurant near my house. I'm so stupid that I was actually excited. A date! He had been really nice to me online, talking to me over and over again, being really nice to me.
I went to meet him at the restaurant. After fifteen minutes of waiting, I decided he wasn't worth it and decided to get a drink then leave. When I got home I received a message akin to: "saw you at the restaurant, lay off the twinkies lardo...I had to leave you were so ugly it was making me sick". This message was not from his screen name, but another, albeit similar name. I didn't really care about being ditched, but I did get pissed off and replied that I thought he was a jerk. He pretended to have no clue what I was talking about and said he didn't make it because his uncle was in the hospital. Yeah right, he had IMed me three hours before and said he was looking forward to meeting me, so I doubt circumstances changed that much. No matter how many times I tried to get him to leave me alone, he wouldn't. I looked him up in the White Pages (because the genius gave me his real name, smart) and called his house's land line. He picked up the phone (despite being at the hospital) and pretended not to know me. When he mentioned this in our convo, he said he had his calls forwarded to his Blackberry. Getting pretty ridiculous, no? At this point I was only sparring because he was pissing me off and was saying he was going to kill himself because I was being so cruel. Yeah, right. I got tired of this and blocked the screen names. He changed them and kept IMing me. I called the police.
Now, I understood there was probably nothing the police could do, but I wanted to call and see if there was anything they could do, just in case. At this point, I was feeling stalked. Blocking his screen names did nothing, he just kept changing them, and he was continuing to insult me and my intelligence with his idiotic excuses. I logged off and started getting text messages to my phone. I wasn't aware until now that people who are blocked can still text message to your phone. Isn't that nice? Now he's mad that I called the police. They came, I talked to them, they were apologetic and said I did everything I should have up until the point where he wore me down and I said FINE, I'll meet you. They told me to change my screen name and I should be fine. Except that I've had my old one for four and a half years and don't remember the password. Great.
Anyways, moral? You still shouldn't trust people on the Internets, at least not for a reallllly reallllly long time. I'm not going to get a new screen name. If people who know me need me, they can call or text me on my phone or email me. I'm going to be friends locking this LJ and locking down my couple profiles on other sites as well (namely: Facebook). I've learned my lesson. Hopefully, I'll learn it well.

On Friday I was driving the three-and-a-half hours to the campground my family stays at in order to visit with them all weekend.
loverieed and Brent (now pronounced "Brunt" or "Adam") came with me...and boy, was that interesting. Anyways, I stopped to get less expensive gas right over the state border (about half-an-hour into the trip) and when I got back in the car and started driving away....I forgot my wallet on top of the car. And no, I didn't remember. At least not until we reached our destination and I got out to pay for our campsite...
Sadly this is not the first time. Go ahead, laugh at me. I would too.
:) Me
P.S. Juju, as I've said above, I suck at life and that's why I haven't been to visit you (or even been to my mom's) in over a month since you got home. I really am trying...I just am really freaking busy (which I misspelled 'busty' originally). This week Don is coming to put in my air conditioner (HALLELUJAH), I have a wake to go to, and I'm evidently supposed to take my cousins to see Wall-E. If there's time, I'll call.
P.P.S I just freaked out 'cause I thought there was a bug crawling up my neck, but it was just my hair. I continue to suck at life.

So I was just over at
sgabigbang, where I've been spending lots of time lately and I am so amazingly, extremely, over-abundantly, ecstatically, crazily overjoyed at the number of stories there are! 23 whole McShep stories to read. That's over a million wonderful words of slashy wonderfulness. There are 41 complete stories in all, how cool is that? I've been busy beta-ing for people lately, so I hadn't even seen the post until now.
My original author dropped out due to RL issues I believe, but two others have picked me up -
wolfshark and
indybaggins. I'll cheerlead you guys to go read them as soon as they're up, but I just wanted to give you a heads up and share my abundance of excitement. The prompts they've done, respectively, are declassification of the Stargate program and John didn't go into the cloister alone (from "Epiphany"). Anyways, you can head over [here] to see the list of authors or over [here] to see the list of prompts.
And on top of all that, it's Friday too. It's like Christmas in July! I'm heading off to camp with
loverieed and Brent this weekend, I'll be back on Sunday!

My original author dropped out due to RL issues I believe, but two others have picked me up -
And on top of all that, it's Friday too. It's like Christmas in July! I'm heading off to camp with

I have fully and completely moved. Well, except for the furniture - desk, chair and bureau - but who cares about that anyways. As soon as Brent left me at the house last night, I was sitting there thinking...uh...guys? Hello? Anyone? ALONNNNNE. I am stuck in this big, old house all by myself...and I realized last night that the 3-prong outlet in my room doesn't work, so my desktop? External HD? Life? WON'T PLUG IN. Damn. I'm going to get my landlady to fix that when she gets back from vacation...
Anyways, on the book front, finished another one last night:
11. Darwin's Children by Greg Bear
Loved the book, although it wasn't quite up to par with the first one. I wish he'd write more in this series, but I'm not sure where it would go...it'd almost certainly have to move on to a different set of people as I'm pretty sure the Rafelson's are pretty worn out...poor people. Anyways, the first book was a
jujuberry136 certified rec, as usual. My review can be found here on the LibraryThing site, which is my favorite thing ever.
Of course I watched the season premiere on Friday with
loverieed and Brent, but I can't really add to the already hilarious and amazing comments by the SGA comm. Oh you people are amazing. I watched it in Rhode Island and then I spent the night and went to the beach yesterday! Woohoo!
Today's agenda? Be lazy (I realized I can't really do much until my furniture arrives). It is very fitting that the only things perfectly set up in my room are my books, DVDs, and bed. That is my life in a nutshell. I've started the third book in the Dexter series by Jeff Lindsay and I'm waiting for
exchangingtwo to call so we can go see Wall-E (yes, I'm going again). Until then,
mcshep_match and Dexter....what a nice combo!
P.S.> How funny is it that Rodney is my "optimistic" icon? I say: really funny.
